Why ESeaLog?

Earth-system processes do not remain inside disciplinary boundaries. ESeaLog brings field observations, measurements, photographs, and scientific discussion together by place so geologists, atmospheric scientists, hydrologists, oceanographers, cryosphere researchers, engineers, and communities can document change in a shared record.

The geosphere is the solid Earth: rocks, sediments, soils, landforms, and the tectonic and surface processes that continually reshape the planet.

Hydrosphere

The hydrosphere includes Earth’s water in oceans, rivers, lakes, groundwater, and the exchanges of water among the surface, subsurface, atmosphere, and ice.

Air

Atmosphere

The atmosphere is the layer of gases surrounding Earth, where weather, winds, pressure changes, and atmospheric waves interact with the land, water, and ice.

Frozen water

Cryosphere

The cryosphere contains Earth’s frozen water, including glaciers, ice sheets, sea ice, snow, and permafrost, and their connections to climate, oceans, and landscapes.
